Lumo Analytics Got 2.5 Million EUR From EIC Accelerator Program to Develop their Comminution Properties Tool
Enabling On-Site Mechanical Analysis of Drill Cores for Sustainable and Efficient Mining
The European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator is a Horizon Europe programme supporting SMEs and startups in developing and scaling innovative technologies. In May 2025, Lumo Analytics Ltd received a grant for their LIBS project, Enabling on-site mechanical analysis of drill cores for sustainable and efficient mining.
Lumo Analytics uses Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to provide instant, on-site analysis of drill cores, enabling real-time assessment of elemental, mineral, and mechanical properties. Proprietary algorithms analyze optical and acoustic signals from laser ablation, giving precise estimations of rock properties without laboratory delays.
The technology aims to reduce energy use, chemical consumption, and waste in mining, supporting the EU’s goals for critical mineral self-sufficiency and the green transition.
Fast-tracking the Development Work
EIC Accelerator will help Lumo Analytics to bring new analysis products to the existing workflow.
“With the support of the EIC Accelerator, we can fast-track our R&D and bring advanced LIBS-based drill core analysis to market sooner, transforming mining into a more efficient and sustainable industry.” says Lasse Kangas, CTO and founder of Lumo Analytics, who found out the possibilities of acoustic signal when developing the core scanning method at Aalto University.
Within this news series we will keep you updated on the progress of the project.
